NEW TO THE VILLAGE?

| ESTABLISHING UTILITY, REFUSE AND RECYCLING SERVICE: To establish a utility and refuse/ recycling billing account, please come to the Village Hall at 200 South Hough Street with proof of identification. Because of federal guidelines that the Village is required to follow, you must bring a government-issued photo i.d. Our customer service personnel will assist you in setting up your account. Once your account is established, the Village will bill you every other month for water, sewer, and refuse service. Water and sewer charges are based on actual usage. Refuse charges are for the services for the next two months. For your convenience, utility bills can be paid online, by mail or at the utility bill drop box, located at the exit to the Village Hall parking lot. Recyclable/ compostable and regular refuse are collected on FRIDAY. There are three (3) separate containers for refuse, recycling, and compostable (yard waste) materials. If you need a new container, please contact the Village's refuse/ recycling provider, GROOT, at (800) 344-5600. Please have your recyclables, compostables and refuse at the curb before 7:00 a.m., but no more than 24 hours before pickup. ESTABLISHING ELECTRICAL SERVICE: Electrical service is provided by Commonwealth Edison, a public utility company. To establish an account, visit www.comed.com and choose "Customer Service", and then "Service Requests". You can also call them at 1-800-EDISON-1 (1-800-334-7661). ESTABLISHING GAS SERVICE: Gas service is provided by Nicor, a public utility company. To establish an account, visit www.nicor.com and choose the "Residential" tab, then under "Customer Service", choose "Moving In or Out". You can also call them at 1-888-Nicor4u (1-888-642-6748). Nicor offers a free energy audit tool to help you to save on energy costs, and has other useful information and tips on their website.

ESTABLISHING CABLE TELEVISION SERVICE: Cable television service is provided by Comcast and can be established through their website at www.comcast.com. Choose the "Shop" tab, and follow the instructions for new customers. You may also contact them at 1-800-COMCAST (1-800-266-2278). | GENERAL VILLAGE INFORMATION |

BICYCLE REGISTRATION: The Village does not require bicycle registration, but does offer them free of charge. The registration will help the Police Department trace lost or stolen bicycles. Registration is available at the Police Department, located at 400 North Northwest Highway or (847) 304-3300.

| BUILDING PERMITS: Permits are required for construction of any type including additions, alterations, decks and patios, demolition, driveways (new or resurfacing), fences (including electronic dog fences), fireplaces, heating/air conditioning, new buildings, structure relocation, signs, site development and underground work. | COMMUTER PARKING LOT PERMITS: If you plan to commute regularly by train, you may want to purchase a commuter parking lot permit. To obtain a Commuter Parking Lot Permit, visit the Village Hall and one of our customer service personnel will assist you. | COMPOSTABLE MATERIAL (YARD WASTE): Each single-family home in the Village has a separate 90-gallon wheeled cart for yard waste. Yard waste includes grass clippings, weeds, leaves and small twigs. This cart is for yard waste only and will not be emptied if it contains any other refuse such as sod, dirt, clay, stones, rocks, gravel or other materials. |

| CURBSIDE BRANCH COLLECTION: The Village conducts curbside branch collection twice a year. Residents will be notified of the dates of collection via the Village's newsletter. Prior to the branch collection, please have all material out to the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your designated Monday morning. The "chipper" will make only one pass through your neighborhood. Branches may be up to 10" in diameter and at least 4' in length. Branches should be stacked neatly in a long low pile on the parkway, with the cut end facing the curb. Please remember that Village crews cannot pick up material on private property. |

| DIGGING INFORMATION: Before you dig, be aware that there may be hidden underground utilities on your property. It is very important that you call J.U.L.I.E. (Joint Utility Location Information for Excavators) before you dig at 8-1-1 or 1-800-892-0123 at least two working days before you break ground on your property in order to check for the placement of utility and telecommunication lines underneath your lawn. |

| DOG LICENSES AND REGULATIONS: Dog tags are required for all dogs, and can be obtained for only $5 at the Village Hall. Dog tags are effective from July 1st through June 30th of each year. Also, the Village has a leash law and an animal waste ordinance. When your pet is on any premises other than your own, it must be on a leash of no more than six feet. Please be respectful of your community and clean up after your pet. |

| "FOR SALE” SIGNS: Please do not post "For Sale" or other signs on utility poles, rights-of-way, parkways or any other public property. . Signs posted without a permit or on the public rights-of-way will be removed by Village staff and taken to the Public Works facility for reclaiming. |

| GARAGE OR YARD SALES: Permits are required for garage or yard sales. Permits are obtained from the Engineering and Building Department, and are free of charge. No more than three (3) garage sales per year are allowed on the same premises. Signs for garage sales must be on the premises or on the right-of-way directly in front of the premises. | HOME WATCH PROTECTION: If you are planning to go out of town for an extended period of time, please contact the Police Department at (847) 304-3300 and complete a "Vacation Watch and Inspection Form" before leaving. |

| “NO SOLICITOR” STICKERS: You can legally prohibit solicitors and peddlers from disturbing you at your residence by obtaining a free “Solicitors and Peddlers Forbidden” sticker at the Police Department at (847) 304-3300 or the Village Hall. If you choose not to use the sticker, be aware that solicitors are required to register with the Police Department and they may only solicit between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. If you have a concern with a solicitor, please contact the Police Department immediately. |

| PARKING AT NIGHT: Parking is prohbited on Village streets or alleys between 1:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Parking regulations are strictly enforced during those hours to provide security for neighborhoods and to facilitate street cleaning. Also, overnight parking is prohibited in all Village parking lots, except by paid-in-advance permits for certain areas of the commuter parking lot. | PARKING IN YARDS: Parking in yards is prohibited in the Village. All vehicles must be parked on driveways or in garages. Inoperable vehicles must be stored in a garage, or removed from the property. |

| PARKING WHEN IT SNOWS: Parking is not allowed on Village streets or alleys when snow accumulation exceeds two inches. The Village asks residents to help snow removal efforts by parking their vehicles in their driveways as snow begins to accumulate. Ensuring your vehicle is off the street when it begins snowing will help the streets to be cleared more quickly and will contribute to a higher standard of public safety. |

| REFUSE COLLECTION: Regular household refuse, furniture, swing sets (four ft. lengths maximum), bicycles, and carpet will be picked up on Friday. Carpet must be tied in bundles no longer than 4 feet and only one large item will be collected per pickup. The refuse contractor will not take clumps of earth or construction material during regular pickups. Please contact the Village's refuse/ recycling provider, GROOT, at (800) 344-5600 to arrange for special pick-ups of construction material, appliances, or other items. |

| SIDEWALK MAINTENANCE: In order to maintain a safe environment for our citizens, all homeowners are required to maintain the public walk adjacent to their residence. Please make sure that all snow, ice leaves and other debris are kept clear from the public walk adjacent to your property. The Village also requests that keep areas around fire hydrants and drainage grates clear of obstructions. |

| VEHICLE STICKERS: The Village does not require vehicle stickers, but does offer them free of charge, if you need one. Stickers can be obtained at Village Hall. |

VOTER REGISTRATION: To register to vote, you must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen, and have resided in your precinct for thirty days prior to the election. To register, bring two forms of identification to the Village Hall. One of the forms of identification must have your current address and one of the forms of identification must be a government-issued picture i.d. At the Village Hall, a customer service representative will assis you with registration. Be aware that voter registration will usually close about 28-30 days before an election.

| WOOD CHIPS AND COMPOST: After Village crews conduct curbside branch collection, the wood chips and compost (mulch) is available to the public for free and can be picked up at the Public Works. Mulch cannot be delivered to homes or organizations. |
